How fast do you type?

I typed at 85 WPM. I expected better. I type better when I don't have to strain my eyes to figure out what letter comes next in the word. Ala, I type better out of my head then reading stuff.

80 or so i guess.... depends on errors.... heh
right now i am not going to take the test because i am on the phone... but that's what i scored last time i checked 😛

Gross: 85wpm
Errors: 5 words
Net: 80wpm
Accuracy: 94%

But this keyboard I have at work sucks. Miss my Natural Keyboard.

80's each time, with accuracy around 100% (no more than 2 mistakes each time)

I have be typing for more than 10 yrs, but I can't type Sh!+. I brought typing tutoring software but doesn't seem to help. I constantly miss typed. Any tip or suggestion to become a better typist. I made 6 errors while typing the last 2 sentences. Make that 3. I just miss typed. F@$K, make that 4.

96%, 62 WPM, 2 errors, 60 Gross. Hell, I wasn't even warmed up. Sometimes I know I'm typing over 80 WPM, probably more.

50 @ 97.
I'm much better typing off the top of my head than copying some text, because usually I look at the keyboard to do my typing :/
I also don't worry about errors, because I use MS word then spell check my work, or just give it a quick read through if it's posting on an internet forum.

Best way to get faster is to type a lot. If you have to look at the keyboard, try to get over that. Also, you can and should do exercises where you type certain common words over and over until they become reflexive. It's important to develop the instinct to know when you are typing error free and when you have made an error, so you can immediately correct the error and move on. In my test, for example, I corrected a number of errors. If I'd been going smoothly (warmed up) I would have been a lot faster. Type a lot and you will get faster. Write emails, posts, type letters, do data entry, etc. etc. You could get one of the self help typing CD's. I bet they really work. I learned in 8th grade and never gave it up. Kept coming back to it, and since I got into computers my speed has gone up a ton. In the 8th grade I got up to around 40 WPM. I've always enjoyed it. The better you type, the more enjoyable it is.

Damn I've dropped... I used to be real quick during my MUD days...

Now I'm at 86wpm @ 97% accuracy. :|

Force yourself to use the proper fingers on the proper keys. It'll slow you down for a while but it's necessary to get to be a faster typist.

Very very sound advice. It's crucial to use the right finger for any specific key. If you don't know what they are, find out and discipline yourself. Make sure you are a touch typist (i.e. don't have to look). Eventually with more and more practice you will get faster and faster and enjoy it more and more.

104 uncorrected, 97 corrected.

The best way to break your speed barrier is to take up DVORAK touch typing. It'll ruin your QWERTY skills but it's a lot easier at the 100wpm+ level.
