Was reading about hot teach and came across story about two teens who wreaked their car.

Check out the pics. How fast you think they were going when they hit the tree?

It looks like the force of the impact was probably right over a crumple zone, so probably not that much

It's not just econoboxes / cheap cars that can shear in half. From what I hear, the drivers of both cars walked away from these crashes. Crazy.

This is a really sad accident that happened this week in NC. State trooper hit a car while trying to chase another car that was speeding. The grandmother and child were killed and the other passengers are in serious condition. In the video it shows the engine and front end on one side of the interstate road and the other half on the opposite side, as the guy says, over 100 yards apart.

It happened just before noon Sunday in Jamestown.

Sandra Allmond, 55, died along with 11-year-old Taylor Strange. Allmond's grandson 11-year-old Elijah Allmond, and Taylor's cousin, 9-year-old Steven Strange remain hospitalized.

According to the Highway Patrol, Trooper J.D. Goodnight was traveling southbound on the Interstate 85 Business Loop when he clocked a vehicle traveling northbound at 80 mph in a 55 mph zone. He activated his blue lights and turned around headed north.

Investigators said Allmond was turning left at a green light at the River Road intersection. The Highway Patrol is trying to determine who's at fault, since they say Allmond turned in front of Goodnight and he T-boned her.

"My question is, how could the car be hit so hard that the front end comes off," Allmond's son Gerald Allmond said. "And is a hundred yards from the actual impact."

Investigators said the accident was not technically a chase because Goodnight had made a U-turn and was attempting to catch up with the car when the accident happened. They did not say how fast Goodnight was travelling.

The crash was so violent that the front end of Allmond's vehicle ended up on the other side of Business I-85 from where the collision occured. Allmond, of Thomasville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"As a man, I've lost a mother, you can't replace that," Allmond said. "We've lost a child that was in my care and I can't fix that. That's hard. The family that lost that child, they lost their only daughter. How hard is that? And we're facing two babies in ICU right now. We want answers, I want an explanation. I want to know what's going on."
Goodnight was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. He is now out of the hospital on injured leave.

The suspect Goodnight was chasing got away. Troopers say they are looking for a Buick Skylark.

My condolences go out to the family members.
And regardless of wether the crash was caused by the driver of the car or the trooper, it only serves to show that police, must be more prudent about pursuits for minor traffic offenses, such as speeding. Troopers must exercise due care in any pursuit and this clearly was not the case. The only times very high speed chases should be done is for major crimes, never for a traffic stop. All this just to the state / city can get more money.

How do you catch someone who is going at a high speed, without going at a high speed?

What can we learn from this? Nothing. Surely not that we need greater driver's education (especially for those getting older) and surely not to reform archaic driving laws based set and based on ticket revenue and fuel economy from the 1900s.

Surely nothing to learn, and no one cares.

The way they do it in Europe?

Use a helicopter to identify the suspect. Then deploy units to form road blocks and deploy spike strips ahead of the suspect.

My point was and still is, chasing speeders strictly for Revenue
generation is dangerous and unneeded. Now it is another story
if it is a drunk driver or a murder, prison escapee, that sort of thing.
