How fast can you run a mile?

My best, which was in college for me, was 5:14. I currently run it at right around 6:00, but I've only been running again for a couple of months, so I expect that to go down with some more time.

When I ran more I was doing about a 7:30 mile, but since I have choosen other means of cardio (biking, swimming, etc....) I would probably say a 9:00.

4:20, years ago

Probly couldnt get close to that now, trained for a marathon all last year, did no speed work at all, could only pull off a 7-something at best. Thinking of throwing in a little speed work this year.

My best race ever was probably a 1:56 half mile.

I used to be a sprinter in HS as well.. I think at best I could do it was in the high 5's or low 6's.. I never ran it competitively so I dont know. I'm out of shape now though, so I'm guessing 10+ minutes.

Surprised to see all these in-shape people @ anandtech =) I've never been fat, or chubby even, but I guess I've never been in great shape. I think I maybe got a 10-11 minute one when I was 14 (and totally lacked motivation to get a low time) in high school.

I think a few years back, when we had to run in P.E., I was around 7 minutes...last year, the only time I ran a mile was 7:50, so probably still around 8 minutes..

I can probably do it in under 20 seconds in my car. 😛

Try a quarter mile.

hey, he COULD be doing 180...

I haven't timed myself on a track recently, but I can do three 6-minute miles on the treadmill before I can't take it any more.

Best I can do is like 6:30-6:45, I'm not very fast, I normally run longer distances like 6-8 miles. I'm trying to get faster at running because it is holding me back in Tris. You can't win a Tri on swimming alone lol
