I've always wondered....

I'm guessing if you are going fast enough they just have to call ahead and try to get assistance on pulling you over, because a bike/fast car flying by a cop that is sitting still using the radar would be a major PITA to catch up to...

here: the light bar cars (which are crown vics atm) go 120mph the non light bar cars (also crown vics) go 160mph or so. they havn't had a chance to test them beyond that ;)

now they have a bunch of different cars, so I don't know anymore

Impalas with light bars only get to about 110, or so I'm told.

I always worried about Choppers and Road Blocks more. 3 of us passed a cop in the median on the interstate doing 150+ on bikes with a 350z beside us. Cop didn't even turn on his lights, but I was looking for a roadblock or chopper the rest of the way to Daytona (60 Miles)

Agreed, though if you pass a cop going 100+ you would probably be better off just taking the next exit that isnt within his line of sight, and hiding/taking back roads for a while? right?

They will chase after you, and have buddies ahead come after you. Havent you ever seen cops or those chase videos? Sometimes when cops are using radars, they have a hele above them timing you go from point A to point B, and if your going fast enough, the hele will just follow you. Of course thats on the Interstates.

Camaros topped out at 160 w/o the bar.
Crown Vics about 120 (a few years ago, I'm sure it's higher)
Tahoes about 110
Here they also have three different motorcycles (Suzuki, HD, and BMW)

...but there's a LOT of CHP that have shown up in the last year or so. I see them three times more often than I used to, and more often multiple at once.

if you can make him lose sight of you before he can get a good description of your car and/or license plate, then I suppose you might be safe

Regular Impala's are governed to 124mph, I don't know if the 9C1 and 9C3 police issue ones have the governor or not. I want to say yes seeing as the 9C1 and 9C3 only come with H speed rated tires.

Edit:
3800 Series II SFI V6 with Top Speed Fuel Cut-Off at 124 MPH
Wonder if the cops get custom chips with a higher speed cut-off.

Stats from the wife, who drives one :D :

Crown Vic: 0-60 in under 7 seconds, 120 MPH top speed (gets unstable after 100mph)

Checy Caprice: About the same

Camaro/Mustang: 0-60 5-6 second range, 150MPH top speed

Steps to avoid beign caught by persuing police officers:

1) Speed
2) Head towards airport
3) ...
4) Profit

;)

Almost saw a pair of criminals get away, as they were eluding the police on the streets and the choppers had to pull back from the restricted air space. Then about 3 minutes later, "Chopper Pilot: They are back on the highway!". Morons
