How fast can someone lose weight by goign to the pool and doing laps?

Should I expect dramatic results?


I basically go 3/4 of all out for 1 hour.
 
Depends on your previous lifestyle... if you didn't exercise at all before, and keep your diet the same from now on, you should see pretty good results...
 
Your body weight fluctuates all the time.

Don't be concerned with numbers so much, be concerned about how you look.

I think you'd be better off with some weights, running a fast mile nearly everyday, and cutting back on processed carbs. This will increase lean muscle and decrease fat.
 
Are you sure you're not just losing a ton of water weight?

You perspire when you swim AND lose some water to the pool - a great deal, in some cases, depending on how much you're in the pool/how much you swim.

Weighing yourself after a swim isn't a good idea to see how much weight you have lost, just like weighing yourself after an intense game of tennis is a bad idea. Weigh yourself before, and after. Then you'll have a good idea of how much weight you lose simply by swimming.
 
Swimming is a great workout. The best shape I've ever been in was from swimming. It's low-impact, and it's incredibly hard to injure yourself swimming, unlike running or lifting weights. I also find it much more relaxing and fun. To me, swimming is the only kind of workout I can force myself to do regularly.

Keep it up, you'll get in better shape for it. It's also great for your lungs, especially if you're asthmatic.

free, back (the one where you are flinging your arms in the air like a windmill and then swing around udner water), triple tee pole ( I learned the name and the technique as a kid😱 , a sort of frog type thing, floating while kicking, a technique I made up where I stretch out like a star on my back between backstrokes so I can practice my balance)

I weighed myself before today😀

 
Swimming is an awesome form of exercise. No excess stress on the joints that comes with the majority of sports. Your knees will thank you later. 😀

His knees wouldn't be better off (I know from experience 🙁)

...But with less cardiovascular benefit than many other sports - meaning that as a form of cardio it's not as great as say - biking, rowing, etc. (Based on VO2Max)
 
Actually in my personal experience swimming is more cardio-intensive than any other sport I have ever done (I'm a 4 time HS track and XC MVP). It really depends on if you're splashing in the pond (like most n00bs at see at the pool), or if you're actually doing sets of lanes.

Trust me, your cardio will be stressed at first, but after you get into it, you'll be amazed how many miles you can run without getting tired.

It's also better on your knees (cross-country really tore mine up).

I don't think the results you're seeing are correct. If you want to put on muscle mass, hitting the weights might do you better. It takes longer to see results if you swim compared to lifting (even though I think it's better for your cardio and health).
