How fast can ATOT...

depends what time the ATE is requested/the number of forum members who see it before the topic sinks....

-Vivan

But... have people actually requested the ATE?

As for overrated, I know it's not really that powerful. I've only ever seen it happen to two, maybe 3 sites, wheras /. /.'s things so fast it numbs my mind.

i don't think AT has enough people reading at any given time to bring down a site or even appreciably slow it down.

/. is another story!

Or FW, they can do some damage as well. But typically the 75% Off kind.

yeah, ATE has really fallen off, but if there's a hot deal or a picture of a hot chick then maybe ATE will bring some hurt.

"The AT Effect" is over rated.

Agreed. It's nowhere close to the Slashdot, etc effects (which are comparable to some decent sized DDoS attacks 😉). We can still take out Geocities pages though! Arrr!

LOL that sounds so ghetto I love it 🙂

Of course geocrack has like 5MB bandwidth per day limit.

I'm mostly w/ rossman. The AT effect is WAY overrated. It's a wannabe /. effect. That said, the AT effect may not be the Jupiter-esque gas giant that /. is, the asteroid sized AT effect can sway polls and kill geocities sites if it's the middle of a weekday.

Back in the "The AT Effect" could cripple web sites but those days are long gone 🙁

Damn you, march of progress, and your affiliated rising tide of bandwidth! :|

You're just bitter because you're not getting filthy rich from the referral links in the bettercreditcard.com site.

😉

You guys are overlooking a GInormous point.

Any idiot and their mother can provoke an ATE, whereas /. is much pickier about what they link.

The ratio between easiness/strength of effect is completely converse to the nth degree.
