How fast a processor does an ASUS A7M266 mobo support?

I have an AMD t-bird 1Ghz in there but 1Ghz today isn't really much. I think that might be the weak link in my PC. I think upgrading CPU will do me good for a while. So how fast a processor does it support?

It supports up to Thoroughbreds with the latest bios revision (Bios rev 1007 is latest). Not sure if it can support 333MHz FSB thoroughbreds (2700+ and 2800+) though, but they're not out yet so don't worry about that. I would get a XP 2400+ ($194 at newEgg.com) for max performance and XP 2000+ to make a significant boost in performance.

I'm running an XP1900+ (1.6GHz) stable on my wife's A7M266. Above that I'm not sure. I think an XP2200+ is probably out of the question.

Your best bet would probably be an AGIOA core XP1600 (1.4GHz) from newegg. Last I checked these were shipped for about $54. Most will do 1.6 so, depending on the type/quality of your RAM, you could probably get close to that (150 * 10.5x multiplier = 1575MHz).

Interesting... I didn't know that. I have an extra XP2200+ lying around. I'll have to give that a try. Gotta keep the wife's machine somewhere in the ball park with my P4 2.0b at 2.8GHz.

Thanks for the heads up!

Just make sure that you update the BIOS (if you haven't already) to the newest version. It won't boot with an XP processor with a BIOS version 1005 or below.
Also might want to look at the AMDMB Forums; specifically the ASUS flavor. There is a very long but very informative thread on this board that details some settings you might need to make when installing this processor.
