How far off is wireless VOIP?

I don't know enough about the technology to speak on it in an educated manner, but I hear a lot of rumors about the notion of wireless VOIP technology, ie, me having a SunRocket or Vonage cell phone or something.

How feasible is this? Could this be something we'll see in the next few years, and would it be as affordable as current VOIP services are?

Just something I was pondering on my way to work this morning. Thoughts?

Problem isn't VOIP it's affordable; wi-fi coverage for cities or areas is the problem. Along with the necessary business models for providers.

At the moment a few Wifi phones do exist.
Utstarcom F1000.
Netgear Skype phone coming out soon.
Their's another wifi phone who's name I forget.

Wimax is an option and so is WCDMA but nothing in the here and now like the previously mentioned phones.
