When your computer starts corrupting your data. i.e. hard drive errors (possibly screwing
up your partition tables), memory errors, graphical glitches, etc.
Anything above 40 MHz is starting to push it, and for longterm stability, I wouldn't go that far. Personally I stick to <37.5 but other people go way into the 40's.
I've had a Celeron 333 @ 416 (83fsb) and 41pci running so for over 2 years and never had any problems with corruption. Never had any problems with pci-cards either. But I agree that above 40 is pushing it, a good harddrive (IBM, Western Digital) is essential in avoiding corruption.
