How far from Seattle to Vancouver?

I'm on a business trip to Seattle in a couple weeks. I've got some buddies traveling the Northwest and they are going to be in Vancouver while I'm out there.

How far are these cities away? I assume I'll be downtown for my conference, so how long would it take me to get up to Vancouver? Some say an hour, some have said three hours. I was under the impression it was only 30 min. to an hour.

Thanks.

According to Yahoo they're 160 miles apart, you'd have to be truly hauling ass to do it in an hour.

It used to take 2.5-3.5 hours to drive from Seattle to Vancouver, Canada. I don't know about the boarder now.

Well, I don't normally consider Canada to be part of the "northwest."

So bite me.

well it usually takes about an hour to get to Bellingham then about 30-45 to the border.

it took us a little over 2 hours to drive from seattle to vancouver. this was 2 weeks ago. of course we didn't actually get to visit vancouver because some of us didn't bring our passports. so yeah. we drove 2 hours and then drove back 2 hours. sucked!

I figure it's about 1.5 to 2 hours to get to the border. Then add another hour to hour-and-a-half to get through the border and into downtown Vancouver. So, 2.5 to 3.5 total. It's really gonna vary depending on how bad traffic is getting out of Seattle and how long the backup at the border is. It could take even longer, if the border's >really< bad. We did a Whistler trip during x-mas and spent at least an hour waiting at the truck border... I can't imagine what the regular border-crossing was like.

Takes me about two hours to get to the us/can border from downtown seattle, then another 20 minutes from border to downtown vancouver. Its a fairly long drive no matter what.

i would plan for 4 hours. you have to allow for traffic and unusually slow lines at the border.

How fast do you drive? It's ~60miles - just under one hour with no traffic (rare in Seattle) to Mt. Vernon, and another 30min minimum to Bellingham. From B-ham, another 45 minutes to the border, border crossing time, and then 20min into Vancouver.

Thanks for the answers. I was hoping it was less than 3 hours...not sure I want to do that after a day of being in a conference and what not. And, the boarder, I guess, could play a major role in timing.

I figure with a conference in downtown which, I'm assuming, ends around 5-6pm, you're gonna be dealing with some messed up traffic. WTF is up with Seattle's, traffic, btw? I moved away almost 5 years ago, and everytime I go back (~10 times a year), it's worse and worse, especially around the U-district. A couple times, it was backed up between the bridge and Northgate... that's like 3-4 freaking miles!?!? The first time I visited my g/f's house in Issaquah a couple months ago, I was shocked to see a line of cars waiting to get "off" the freeway at one of the exits... WTF?!?!? This is freaking Issaquah... the boonies!!! I thought people moved "out" of the city to get away from traffic like that.

LOL!!!! I wish!! I go to school in seattle and the 3 times we have driven up to vancover we never got it done in less than 2 and a half hours. The distance is not that bad, but the traffic and the border checkpoint take forever. make sure to bring your passport if you try to cross, they will let you up but are very unforgiving when you try to cross back into washington. we have had to go into the customs office and listen to a lecture 2 out of the 3 times we went across (the time we did not have to go into customs was before 9-11)

They do. Unfortunately, too many of them move. Seattle's Urban Sprawl is some of the worst in the nation.

The exit you're refering to is the Richard Rd exit to Factoria. It has become a potentially dangerous intersection because there are 70mph traffic being mixed with 20mph traffic. But most drivers use it daily and are pretty aware of that problem.

Entity: Guess things are getting crowded in Seattle. If I'd stayed in Seattle, I couldn't have imagined myself ever moving out there. Why, I used to think that a drive to Kirkland or Mountlake Terrace was a loooonnggg drive. Shoulda seen me bitch and moan when my friend's made me do the driving. :) Anyways, I still stay at my parent's place in Wedgewood when I visit (near Eckstein, if anyone's curious), and nothing there really seems different. Is it really that hard to find a decent place closer to the city? Wonder what my parent's house is worth nowadays...

CocaCola5: The exit I was thinking of is further down I-90. I took a quick look on yahoo maps and I >believe< her exit is Front street and the "back-up-from-h@#l" exit is the one right before hers.

Not unless you're only going to Surrey.. It takes at least another hour to get to downtown Vancouver from most of the border crossings.
