How far do you read into an established thread?

Considering:

1. The thread is established, and you never seen it before.
2. It could be any long thread. The number of posts in the established thread doesn't matter. We are talking about the huge threads (about 100+ post types)
3. And if your settings is set to have 20 posts per page.
4. You consecutively read/glance through each post and pages of a thread before breaking off to something else (either posting, new thread, close browser, etc).

This would find out if earlier posts and middle posts would be into view of other readers and if they would be caught by eyes of viewers amongst nef posts.

It would depend on how interesting the thread is. I have read some threads until they are finished on page 20 or something. I would say I usually read them all, unless its really boring.

Ya it depends if I had posts in there I need to defend or if the thread was really so interesting that I like reading peoples comments. Typically 1 page thought.

I'd read as long as interesting and has to do with the said topic. What happens usually after a couple of posts is that people start quoting each other like there's no tomorrow, and this could go on for a while, at that point I'll usually make my own comment if any, or just leave.

No, assuming you havent been in a thread at all and it was the first time.

Excellent question. If I can get in early enough with a response I'll follow it beyond 3 pages. But once it is 4 and beyond I may glance at it, but basically I move on.

usually never after 2 pages. i dont even read threads that are more than 2 pages...which arent "absolutely have to read" ones

1. Why would anyone have their posts per page set at 20?!
2. Depends on how interesting the thread is...
Some threads are incredibly idiotic - I don't know why they're tolerated (i.e. what are you watching on tv right now... post the contents of whatever you have in your clipboard (ctrl - v) etc.
Other threads have quiet a bit of useful information and actually result in an intelligent discussion. I've seen intelligent discussions that have lasted well over 100 posts (but, they're rare).

p.s. This thread is an example of the type of thread I don't bother reading most of the replies... I assume that most of the people, at least those whose opinions I regard as being somewhat intelligent, will have an opinion similar to my own. Thus, I'll read half a dozen replies, confirm my suspicions, post, and move on.
