I have been readin reviews about how the geforce 2 pro is now getting beaten by the kyro 2 in most benchmarks. But all of the websites benchmark the gf2pro at default clock speeds. i was wondering how much of a performance increase you can get by overclocking a gf2pro. I heard that you can get 90% of the ultra's performance. If this is true, then the kyro 2 can be beaten handily by a pro.

I get 230/460 and fairly stable. 92% of the core of an ultra and 100% of the memory. I think the norm is a bit lower at 230/440 which is still above 90% of an STOCK ultra. Of course ultra's can be o/c'd to even greater heights, reaching 500 and beyond.

I have no idea if I can beat a kyro II or not, but I know the kyro II beat my card by about 25 dollars and that it's a damn fine card. Competition is never a bad thing.

I love my pro though and I just benchmarked 3402 2001 3dmarks with the new 12.90 drivers. Almost a 200 point jump and a %6 increase. Very nice. It's a bit more unstable now though. Ahh the price of performance.

My MSI Pro does 245/453 I don't think the Kyro2 will beat it in most games & benchies.

NJ, I'm using the 12.41 drivers totally stable, our system specs are quite similar (P3 933@1010,etc) 3DMark 2001 hits 3598 with Pro OC'd to speeds listed above Win, ME OS.You may want to give them a try.I was going to try the 12.90 you listed till I noticed we had the same speed cpu.

Even at default speeds, I think a Pro could pretty well school a Kyro II. Not to bash the Kyro, it's a great chip, but it's in a totally different price league. I will be building a system around a Kyro II this summer, so I may swap my GF2 Pro out for a while and do some benchmarks with the Kyro. I doubt my GF will lose, though.

I doubt that very much. Which reviews might those be?

Don't fall victim to the hype.

Hey Kevgray! Can you offer some advice?
I just installed a new MSI geforce2 Pro. Am not really sure how to properly configure the settings and I'm getting very low fps. Some where around 20. I have installed both 10.80 and 12.90 drivers and disabled vsync in both open gl and D3d with no FSAA. 3dmark 2001 score was 1985 w/ 10.80 driver and 18?? w/ 12.90. I have used Nvmax to over clock to 460/230. Can anyone help.I am running a PIII 500 with an ASUS P2B-F Mobo. Obviously I am a novice at this. Thanks for any help.

I gotta fess up that i give little or no credit to 3dmarks. I play UT and CS.UT benches at 98+FPS @ 1024x768 and I've never seen CS drop below 100fps even with 2x2AA. 230/460 seems like a good overclock to me. I run win2k so my fps's are a little less but hey, if the game looks good then who cares?

According to posts in this thread:
UPDATES: Leadtek/MSI Geforce 2 Pros at Newegg ,
the cheap $132 Pro card at newegg is shipping with 5ns ram, and one guy is running it at 245/490, and says it scores better than his GF3.

I agree that comparisons should be done at the max, safe speed, that the product is still fully usable at. Comparing default video card speeds of a card that overclocks well, to a card that barely overclocks, would be like leaving a Duron 750 at 750, instead of the 1GHz many will run.
