How far can I take this combo?

Ram is 2x512 Kingston DDR400, HSF is a Cooler Master Jet7, and current overclock is 200FSB x11 as compared to 166FSBx11.5.

Windows barfs at anything above 200FSB as far as I can tell, and I couldn't quite get it to accept an 11.5 multiplier. It's already running a 1.8vcore, so I'm a bit iffy on upping that anymore.

Is this an acceptable overclock?

Otherwise, I'm really liking this board. Too bad it's my roommate's and not mine - at least he's letting me toy with it :)

That's decent enough. If you want to go higher you should start looking at a mobile barton.

Update: I wanted to save the primes work until after I had gotten the best likely overclock, but..

Even at stock settings and voltage, primes fails, and games are randomly freezing windows. So long as I don't try to play games or run primes, everything is fine... any suggestions?

It's not a heat issue. The proc runs at low-mid 40s at stock and low 50s overclocked.

Have to ask: is this a fresh install of Windows? Have you installed the latest nforce drivers?

You may have some bad RAM or a bad RAM slot. Try one stick at a time and see how it performs. You can also check the RAM with Memtest86 overnight.

It is a fresh install, with sp2, memtest returned errors on the original RAM so I replaced it with a single stick of Corsair 1GB DDR400, and Primes95 still dies within a couple of minutes. I'm going to try to install the new drivers after I give memtest a good long run to make sure it doesn't see something wrong with THIS stick (all 3 sticks were working pulls from another machine).

Edit: I also removed the heatsink and reapplied it using much less thermal grease than my friend did. This seemed to help things somewhat, as well as lowering the processor temp.

One updated set of drivers from the web and one 1gb stick of RAM later...

It's been running Primes95 for about an hour now, so far so good... I think it's safe to declare this one a success, but I'm not going to stop it until it's been running overnight at least just to be sure.

Probably not. You may yet have a bad RAM slot or some other component is failing you. Is prime failing with the CPU and RAM at default settings or overclocked?
