I have a ASUS A7N8X Deluxe ver 1.04motherboard. I have been running XP2100 with the front bus speed at 155 mhz and can't go any higher. I have some generic pc3200 ram purchased at Fry's a while back. I have just purchased a 2500+ Barton from newegg and it should be here in a couple of days. My question is how high can I overclock this thing? any suggestions is appreciated

Thanks.

Ha..well like every other thread discusses this, but generally 2.1 - 2.3GHz with a 200MHz bus.

i'd say more...somethingh like 2.3-2.5 with a fsb of 210-220 depending on cooling and your chip....one person got 2.8 on air!!!!

That's unrealistic... do you have an XP2500?

I've got my Barton 2500+ running at 3200+ by just changing the FSB to 200. SLK800 heatsink and Thermaltake Smart Case Fan 2 using the thermal sensor under the CPU and it's at 41C steady. My friend has the identical setup and we managed to get 2.45GHz out of it with I think 203FSB and some combination of multiplier. We're running GeIL PC3200 512MB (single stick for now).

nope, over one amdmb some guy gave scrren shots on 2.8 W/ pics of case( air cooling) and sisoft running.... i dunno if i beive him on that but owell but i do think W/ good cooling u can get 2.3-2.5 with a good stepping( like whts coming out now) with a high FSB..... alot of ppl on amdmb.com have these chips...

This is a good range in my experiences. My own XP2500+ can do 2.1GHz at 1.775V and won't do 2.2GHz without 1.875V(which is too high I think). Won't do 2.3GHz at all.

By "do"-ing, I mean passing Prime95 for many many hours.

Hey Jeff can you give me a little more detail on your setup? It looks like we're running very similar setups. I also have the Barton 2500/333 at 11x200FSB, GF4 Ti4200 128MB. However, my best 3dmark2001 score is 11500. Am I missing something? My friend also has the same system, but with the faster 64MB card and is also in the 14000s.

hey Davidlem That's not very encouraging to hear. I have a 2100 XP overclocked to 2700 XP with Radeon 9500 overclock and the score I got is in the range of 12000. I was hoping to get a better score with the 2500 Barton.

I'm guessing you could hit 2.2 ghz (11x200), maybe try going above 200 fsb, but that generic ram won't help. Play around with your multiplier too. All in all I think 11x200 would be good, since I doubt your ram could go above 200 fsb with decent timings...

average minimum OC on a 2500+ is 2.3 ghz
there are some who are getting 2.4 and 2.5ghz but not many since 2.5ghz takes a really LUCKY chip........so have yoru girl friend pick it out for ya or your mom anyone with good luck

Well I wish I had better news. 3DMark2001 SE (build 330) detects my CPU as a 'Duron' family at 1.56GHz (Barton 2500/333, stock) and a 'Duron' family at 1.72GHz (11x200FSB - 3200+). However, wcpuid 3.1a detects everything correctly. To be sure, I just ran two tests:

3200+ (11x200FSB), Ti4200 128MB (272core/574mem): 10560
2500+ (stock), Ti4200 128MB (stock): 10384

hrm...can't even get 11000s anymore.

yeah I wouldn't worry about how programs detect the cpu
often times they aren't updated to detect the latest processors
it shouldn't affect performance any as long as your L2 cache is enabled in the bios

as far as trying for more oc I suggest taking off the northbridge heatsink and either applying a fresh coat of artic silver or replacing the heatsink entirely with a larger one and a higher cfm fan

if you do this you can atleast hope for higher front side bus speeds
also i'm wondering what voltages you are using on yur mem/cpu/chipset ??

you have the same video card chipset and cpu that I have perhaps we can compare 3dmark scores

my highest 3dmark 2k3 score yet is 1818 marks
but I am running a bit slower than that now because i couldn't get it as stable as I wanted

The part that bothers me most is that there's only a 180 point difference (3DMark2001 SE 330) between having both my CPU and video OC and at default speeds. I also dropped 1200 points from my highest (2500+ stock, 270/572 vid). Now I've upped it to 3200+ CPU with the same vid and get a lower score! I dont dare goto DX9.0 for fear of losing even more performance. Running 45.23 Detonator drivers w/ DualView enabled.

Running stock voltages for 11x200FSB

Just upped it to 12x200FSB (2406MHz) to prove it could be done.
1.825V CPU
1.8V AGP
2.7V DRAM
1.8 IGP

Disabled DualView, OC the vid to 270/570, and ran 3DMark2001: 13139 - my new high score
Back down to stock voltages, 11x200FSB (2205MHz), DualView disabled, OC the vid to 270/570 and ran 3DMark2001 again: 12940 - almost 3000 above my previous best w/ DualView enabled!

The short of it: DualView eats video horsepower!

I settled in at 11.5x200FSB for an even 2305MHz and gave the CPU 1.775V of juice for a little extra overhead. Remember this is only SLK-800+Smart Case Fan II cooling with a dinky power supply - I'm sure it's capable of more!

that looks good
i noticed you give much more vagp and vcore than i usually do
i might try some higher speeds when i wake up tomarrow
