how far can dvi/vga cable go

i need to have a computer in a differnt room than the monitor. i was wonder how long could the cable be???? or how long do they sell them thank you..

OP: how long is the distance between the computer and the room?

I am using an 18 foot DVI cable with no problems. This is above the maximum distance (15ft?) in the DVI spec but the digital output of video cards has improved since the format was introduced apparently.
