How far back do background checks delve?

I know with credit reports bankruptcies and such fall off after 7-10 years, but is the same true for bankruptcies and other similar information on employer background checks? For example say I lost my license 12 years ago due to errant driving, would they see that?

Don't ask why, just answer. 😀

depends on what the check is for

something like security clearance for the FBI is going to be more in depth than a cashier at the payday loan store

It may still show that you went through a bankruptcy, but a simple credit check of good current credit could fix any scare that might give an employer. On the lost license, it is probably still there.

This site claims negative information older than 7 years old cannot be included, except for criminal convinctions. However, below that it says information about criminal convictions cannot be requested. It says no bankruptcies can be on it after 10 years, and no records of arrest after 7.

Confusing...

You know the time you picked up a dog on its hinds legs and pushed it around like a wheel barrow? They got that too. 😀

My fvcking bankruptcy was still listed 12 years after the fact and also every divorce I went though effected my credit for 7+ years also.

My brother and I both had a background check for security clearance for the FBI. My brother has many speeding tickets on his record. Lets just say they wanted to know the date, time, location, etc.. of each ticket. Dating back to the first one, which I'm pretty sure, was more than 7 years ago.
