So I went to register both my cars today. The maxima I registered another year at $172 no problems. The sentra I thought based on last year would be about $54. Well I was right, so I paid that. Then I paid another $150 for the Senta. The reason being a lot of cheap SOB go to hell bastards locally have been going to other counties to register their vehicles at cheaper rates. Since I moved into this county last July and my registration was still good until the end of this week I never thought to re-register in this county (I lie - I actually did call somebody back in August. They said wait until you have to renew).
Well, I missed the grace period and the penalty is back taxes. I thought "Damn I have to pay back taxes back to August on this car. That won't be more than $25". Well they back tax you two fvcking years. So the year prior I get taxed $60 on it and the year before that they say it was worth $89. I didn't even own the car back then. I still lived in freaking canada.
"But ignorance of the law is no excuse." blah blah, whatever, nobody here knows the entire law. I didn't put up a fuss and I paid. My question is How fair do you think this is? in regards to penalizing people a full two years? MAYBE I can understand one year, but two years? That's just not right and it's one of those things you can't do a damn thing about.
UPDATE I emailed somebody at the revenue department who seemed to agree this was silly. I had my old apartment fax over proof of my earlier residency and I now have to sign and notorize some form and they're going to reasses my fees and refund the difference. What a silly cow yesterday! I didn't really ask her much yesterday because she was one of those clerks who couldn't care less and I knew it was an excercise in futility.
UPDATE MAR6
I got the check in the mail today. Every penny those swine took from me. Whoo hoo!
