How exciting can a BMW European Delivery pick-up really be?

And to really prove our point of how exciting this program really is, the following video and photos will tell this story even better. The story starts with four friends going to Munich to pick up a gorgeous Montego Blue BMW 135i Coupe, then taking the car through Switzerland, Austria, Italy and France.

Pretty interesting video including sights along the way.

very very cool, what does it typically cost to do it that way?

haha, kids parents must have bought the car for him 😛.

Haha, so did I. Who the hell gives a crap if they drive to pick you up when you buy it? It's still just a car, people idolize BMW waaaaay too much.

Now if it was a jet, that'd be a different story.

^ BMW isn't the only company doing this. Most Americans haven't seen anything off the continent. How exciting is it to roam around in your brand spanking new car pushing it on such roads and taking in the beautiful scenery? Looked like a lifetime experience to me.

If you say "it's just a car" then you're the type to buy a pointA to pointB car so most threads here wouldn't suit you.

Fair enough. I can totally see that being interesting/exciting when there is decent scenery and roads you can actually enjoy. In the US you pretty much have neither. Consider my complaint retracted!

How exactly does this allow BMW to offer their cars for less than the typical method?

I believe it's because they can import the car as previously titled (or some legal entity close to that) and avoid paying the tariff taxes on it.

I have more or less done the same by going over and renting a Mercedes SLK and then driving it all around Bavaria (Aplenstraße) on perfectly beautiful Fall days. Worth every cent. But yeah, I didn't have one to take home with me.

Toyota is now doing this for some of their trucks made in Mexico. You can pick it up in Mexico and your tour involves avoiding the gang warfare and car thieves.

That video made me want a BMW.

Is it really cheaper to buy a car if it includes all that? Holy shit.

I saw a 135i in the showroom stickered for $40k. That's a hefty price for a "starter" model (though the better engine) so I wouldn't call these things cheap by any means. From what I understand, you also still have to pay the destination fee of nearly $1k btw.

And ends with "escape across the boarder" where points are awarded on the number of illegals brought across.

I'm sure it was, er, exciting wedging all those dudes into a 135i! I have a 3 series sedan and the back seats are really only suitable for short trips - I can't imagine an adult sitting in the back of a 1 series . . .

It's not as bad as you might imagine.

You guys are getting the wrong idea, they don't include flights or anything mentioned, the delivery program has its cost structure. You can select different packages to PURCHASE, the package includes accommodations, meals, insurance, shipping charges, and customs fees. The price varies between different packages and levels of accommodations with regards to hotels and length of stay.

This is still an excellent adventure, and most European car company offer a delivery package. I posted a thread inquiring about this a while back, and since have learned many great details about the programs, and what they offer. I'd think if you can do this, definitely take advantage of it as the savings on the vehicle is almost made up for the cost of a vacation.

My Dad was thinking about this a few years ago before he bought his 135 and he made it sound like you basically get the trip to Europe (for one) free by not having to pay to import a new car into the states. In the end, you don't save any money but still not a bad deal imo.

Hey guys--my name's Ian and I shot this video. Thanks for all the comments! We had a blast on this trip and I had a lot of fun putting this video together.

Yes, we all cannot wait to go back. I just can't imagine buying a European car now without taking advantage of such a program, especially since as long as you have the time to take the trip, it ends up washing to free! I'm drooling over BMWs and Audis now if only for another shot at hitting places we missed the first time! (Flüelapass, Verdon Gorge, the ring...)

And yes, if anyone has ever wondered, ten days half in the back seat of a 1 is a little rough. Actually, it's not as bad as you'd think, but then again I'm only 5'8"! For this trip it was totally worth it.
