How exactly does removing an authorized user work?

A certain individual has been an authorized user on my credit card for quite a while, and the time has likely come to remove them.

The thing I'm a little confused about, though, is that AFAIK her card has the exact same number/expiration date as mine. The only thing different would be the three digit number on the back.

If I remove her as an authorized user, will it actually disable her card without harming mine?

I know I could call the CC company, but I won't be able to do that for a few hours.

You'll actually have to get the card re-issued (obtaining a new number). Removing the authorized user will only prohibit transactions which use specific methods for authenticating membership.

Most websites and a significant number of retail stores (which don't use card readers) do not check far enough to stop a transaction.

Ahh, good point... She'd still be able to use it at any site that didn't verify the number.

Should've thought of that myself.

Dammit, that's a pain. I don't want a new card number.
