How exactly does one confirm a person's identity over the phone?

How do CEO's get in touch with each other? Say Carly of HP wanted to call Ford's CEO, just as a well wishing kind of a thing. How does Ford's CEO know that he is talking to Carly? Someone could be crank calling him from inside HP (for caller ID) for all he knows. How do govt officials confirm when making calls internationally that they are infact talking to the governor of Farkistan, and not some crank caller?

There are some radio shows that have successfully done just that. Prank called high level people under the guise of being someone else. Not too long ago some Cuban Americans did it to Fidel Castro and it created a big controversy.

The way it usually works is they are expecting the call or the secretary knows they talk normally.

Usually the first time you have to go through the channels. Maybe talk to a director first and then the director gets the ok to connect.

Sometimes I am sure pranks get through.

1) FED

2) SWIFT

In international finance I do NOTHING based on a phone call, e-mail, fax or letter any of those methods can and have been fabricated.

FED - domestic
