I have copied all the files from winxp to my d drive and I want to install winxp to the c drive. I did a search on installing from harddrive and many people mentioned smartdrive. Can someone explain to me how exactly do I use smartdrive? Thanks in advance.

smartdrv is micro$haft's drive caching software. when you boot to dos, go to your ddrive, and just run 'smartdrv'. do a 'dir /s smartdrv.exe' to find it. If it's not on your harddrive, (I can't remember if it's on the XP disc), then you should be able to find it on any Win9x/ME disc.

I suggest installing from the CD, it is MUCH MUCH faster. Smartdrv will definitely make it faster if you are doing like you want to...but it is still DIRT SLOW!

Just boot off of the CD which will load the NT kernal and thus not need to write a whole bunch of stuff to your hard drive before it can even begin the install process. Trust me when I say that it is much much faster and easier.
