The Easyprivacy third party filter in uBlock will stop this since it blocks web bugs.

I had a Grease Monkey script that displayed webbugs. I got tired of it since damn near every site used them and some sites have 1x1 pixel place holders.

If you use a lame e-mail client such as the gmail website, sure, remote content isn't blocked by default.

Anyone got a copy of Outlook Express circa 2004 handy? Remote content blocked by default. That's how old the feature is (possibly older).
