How "Elite" is this Republican Guard anyway?

Seems like we're mowing them down with ease. IIRC, more of our guys have gotten killed by militia/para-military than these "Elite" soldiers.

IIRC the Republican Guard ARE the regulars, sure Iraq had 300,000 soldiers, but 200,000 were conscripts/volunteers, the Republican Guards are the career millitary people in Iraq.

Yeah, but the regular Iraqi army is a bunch of starving conscripts with little pay, poor equipment and no interest in fighting. They're only there because Saddam and his death squads will kill them and their families if they refuse to serve. Hell, these guys are actually begging to get sent to the front lines. The closer they are to the enemy the sooner they can surrender and get something to eat. A pack of cub scouts with a rusty BB gun and a bad attitude would be elite compared to the regular Iraqi army.

If the word "elite" could be applied to any arabic military the area would not rely on homicide bombers.
