How effective is thermal glue in holding fans?

As message title. Hope it's not OT. I'm thinking of slapping a bit of thermal glue on to a chipset HSF. Is it reliable?

You say holding fans, are you talking about the hs and fan or just the fan?

I'll be putting it on my mobo. The 815 chipset to be exact. Not sure what kind yet coz I dunno what I'll be able to get. I'd just like a general idea on how sticky it is.

Both. I'm looking for a chipset HSF combo. I'm sure there's such thing out there...
