How effective are heat pipe setups?

I'm not brave enough to run a water cooling setup, but am thinking about a heatpipe. How effective are these compared to a nice heatsink? I'm running a modified Globalwin FDP32 (roughly equivalent to an Alpha 6035) on my Duron 600@900MHz via 1.85v, so I already have good cooling. Would a setup similar to the one in this months Maximum PC be beneficial for me?
