My domain expires in a few months, and while going through the renewal process, I see that GoDaddy offers privacy for something like $4.99 /yr.

Do you normally use it? Why or why not?

EDIT: Rather than start a new thread, I have some additional questions I'll ask here ;)

So, after reading some previous topics about domains, I see that RossMAN highly suggests namecheap to register domains. My domain will expire in April...can I transfer it now to namecheap? And then purchase my extension through them? Is there any diffuclty or cost associated with the transfer itself?

I don't use private registration services because almost all of my domain names are for business purposes. It looks bad if you try to hide WHOIS information for a business.

However, for individuals, I recommend highly considering adding it. You need to keep real contact information on file for WHOIS or you risk losing your domain name. If you don't want the general public to be able to look up your info via a quick WHOIS search then ID protect is definitely a good idea.

Thanks for the advice, it is not used for business at all, so I think I will be adding it. My contact info is also very outdated. I'm glad you mentioned that! I need to update my address and phone.
