Meaning do you get to surf the net a lot?

Do you have someone glaring over your shoulder majority of the time you're at work?

Can you get up and go use the restroom when you please?

Can you eat lunch when you please?

Give me the low down, thanks.

Yeah I e-mailed a guy who I almost sold a phone to and I'm wondering what it's like to do what he does. Hope he gets back to me.

If you are posting on ATOT, you probably know enough about computers that you would find yourself quickly bored with a job like that (run on sentence). In my past experience: I peed when I wanted, ate when I wanted, surfed 90% of the day, and never had someone glaring over my shoulder. Most people hiring for tech support just want you there in case something goes wrong. You give them a sense of security. Get your crap done, be avaliable to people, and you can probably surf the entire day. In my previous job, I ran out of web sites to read, so I read 4,000 pages of geeky tech manuals that the company had. I finally got so bored that I quit.

6 of us support about 2000 computers and 200 servers. the slow days are slooow the busy days are just that very busy ( about 50 to 70 calls a piece) When it is slow we are able to surf the net as long as it is not pron, gamble, or religous in nature. we can use the restroom as we please but if it is not on our break we get hit on our stats. we have a set lunch because if we did not and everyone went on lunch at the same time no one would be here to man the phones.

Jobs vary, and ability to do as you please vary. Some positions you will feel abused at until you establish yourself. Some positions you will feel as if you are not challenged enough.

well my company, you can go to the potty whenever you need to, management understands that we are adults and now when we need to pee or poop.
We can eat at our desks as long as we clean up.

We can surf the net but lately they've been blocking more and more sites. I can't go to genmay anymore :(

The job for the most part is easy, but being in my dept kinda sucks, cause we are the last line of defence asically, if we can't fix it it can't be done, so everyone asks us questions. And our field guys will call us knowing that we are the pnultimate in geeky computer knowledge, but they won't believe anything we tell them, so it can be very irritating and stressfull at times.

I had a job like that once, was easy, and the rules were very liberal, and my coworkers were great, so I never had any problems with that.

The job still sucked though, cause the people were trying were at best just ignorant, and in many cases utter and complete assholes.

Stay away from any kind of support jobs where you have to help out people who don't know the difference between "The harddrive" and "The computer", that's my advice.

Why do you think I have as many posts as I do? No porn, no chat, no games are the rules where I work. It varies, though, I have friends at other companies who can't surf at all.

Do you have someone glaring over your shoulder majority of the time you're at work?

If you do your job right, it's not too bad. If you end up with a micro-manager for a supervisor it can be worse.

Can you get up and go use the restroom when you please?

Within reason, they keep track of EVERYTHING you do (codes logged on the phone)

Can you eat lunch when you please?

Nope, scheduled lunch + breaks.

Give me the low down, thanks.

- Decent pay for the skill level required, I should make around $32-33K this year & I've had steady, full time employment since I was 17.
- Relatively easy work
- Relatively high stress
- Repetitive
- Extremely high turnover rate

I hate my job, but that's normal after being in tech support for a few years.
