The wife suggested that we get the tree now citing the fact that it is now December. I said what. That seems a little early. I was thinking maybe next weekend, you know, give it another week or so. Maybe she is just in the Christmas spirit. It's hard to get in the Christmas spririt when it's 75 degress out though. It's been a long time since I have seen it snow for Christmas. :(

Well, look at it this way - it's the same amount of work whether you put it up now or in a couple of weeks, but if you do it now then you get more mileage for your effort :)

The earliest has to be this year. My parents got our first fake tree yesterday. :( It was a traumatic moment for me.

Anyway, my apartment's been decorated since the weekend after Halloween. :) Me and my roommies love Christmas! ...and we have two trees up.

well, i'm in the proccess of putting out my christmas lights outside....but i do have over 100 strings to put up, so it is a long proccess, and people drive by to look at them a lot, so I get them up early. We don't put our tree up for another week or two. If I remeber later, I will take some picture of my lights and post them.

Crap, that's right. Gotta put up the lights outside also. :D Every year I put up the lights, I am reminded of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. When Russ is helping his dad put up lights. He hands him that huge ball of tangled bulbs. Funny every year. What a classic Christmas movie.

I don't put up a tree, but if I did I'd probably do it T-giving weekend. Nothing else to do, except wait in line at Best Buy. :p

Got my tree last weekend, cut an inch off the bottom, and put it in a bucket of water out in the garage 'til I get done with the lights outside. Most of your trees have already been cut and are sitting on some flatbed and drying out right now.

The reason those lights are in one big ball is because its usually -10 F and there's a foot of snow on the ground when we take it down. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

That is a weird holiday tradition, if you really stop to think about it. Imagine, extra terrestrial life is discovered in December and we genially agree to allow them to study humans, including Western Culture. In their notes they include the odd habit of cutting down a tree and sticking this now-dead tree in a corner, covering it with shiny objects and putting brightly colored boxes beneath it, not allowing anyone to open the boxes until a certain day.

We usually used to set it up the weekend before December 1st, or on December 1st if it fell on a weekend.

I need to get some kind of decoration for my dorm, though it might not make that much sense since I'm going home on the 15th.

I went and got mine today, but it is getting flocked, so it will last twice as long as regular trees. Actually, I get mine on the first of december every year.

Well, it used to but it got lost one day and I haven't seen it since. There's a reward out.

Flocked? Could you explain?

Flocked is spraying fire-proof, white snow-like stuff on the tree.

A ha!

I'm buying my first real tree this year to put in my foyer. Is there anything else I should know other than to keep it watered and to unplug the lights at night?

Flocked is when you get fake snow on the tree, it looks really good, but only if there is real snow outside.

Make sure you put it in the stand *outside* and stand it up to make sure it doesn't fall over. We had a tree go over three times in one year once, breaking about a third of the ornaments. :)
