I got tix for 7pm showing 12/17/15 and I'm trying to decide how early I should go. Theater is about 3 blocks from work, and I get off at 5pm so I'm wondering if 2 hours is ample time. But not 100% sure. How long are you waiting?

Im not lining up to wait because I wont be going on the first night. However I will be seeing it that weekend in 70mm IMAX, so i've got that to look forward to.

I'm a big fat hairy loser, and even I won't sleep in a line for tickets.
Or a fucking iphone.

Having said that, this film will have me returning to the cinema for the first time in 5 years. I think I will wait until a mid-week matinee.

Vendor bought me tickets for a private showing friday afternoon. Off work early, free star wars showing, sounds better than opening night to me.

I don't have tickets yet. Waiting for week 2 or 3, so probably won't have to bother with lines.

I'm under the impression that it's the same movie in week 3 that is on day 1, minus all the snot-dripping poltroons clogging the theater?

I don't even know when I'm going to watch it. Or if I'm going to watch it. So, I guess the answer is "I'm not lining up at all".

I plan on walking into the theater right after I buy my ticket. Opening weekend is for the kiddies

lol Yea i'm kinda serious. My stepson really wants to go opening night so I've got tix, just trying to plan how early to get there to get decent seats. By decent, I mean anything passed the first 5 rows. Not too picky other than that. Never been to an opener hyped as much as this so I'm not sure what to expect.

Waiting for DVD or waiting for a matinee in an empty theater a month after it's out.

I'm in the camp where movie watching is movie watching, ans everyone else should shut up and stay away from me...

Hey, I understand. I went through that garbage in 99 or whenever it was--took a day off work to wait in line at a theater to buy tickets for the movie, first midnight showing, 1 month in advance.

waited in line for something like 1 hour or more to hopefully get non-shit seats.

movie was full of shit.

never again.

yeah...I'm actually considering going to the theater for this. NORMALLY, I wait for movies to hit RedBox...but this one MIGHT be worth seeing on the big screen.

However...I WILL NOT wait in line to see it.

another vote for midweek matinee. I dislike sitting in crowded theaters with rude people on their phones, talking too loudly and generally being rude. Whispering to your friends before the movie starts is fine, having your bright 5 inch phone screen out, chatting and using instagram between you and your friends who are sitting right next to you is poor form. Wow, I'm a bitter old fart today.

No waiting in lines.

I'll catch it on cable in the background while I'm strumming my guitar.

Where I live you now have to reserve the seat when you get the ticket so if I wanted to probably just before it started...

 That would be a great way to monetize the movie going experience. See it week 1-2 for deleted scenes 1-8. Come back week 2-4 for deleted scenes 9-15. The movie shown on day 30 and 31 has the alternate ending

And there will still be snot-dripping poltroons in the theater when you go. Mainly because you will be there!

More seriously because watching a movie with more than 2 other people in the theater seems to be an exercise in murderous self restraint due to the blatant and uncaring use of cellphones and talking during the movie

Probably wait till it's been out for a while so the crowd dies down, or maybe even wait till it comes available on torrent DVD or CraveTV.

Not at all. Have tickets to go see it at the new Alamo Drafthouse in SF. I haven't gone to a non-reserved seating theater in years for my own enjoyment and don't plan to.

The theater near me has reserve seating. So I will be showing up 10 minutes before showtime and thumbing my nose at the suckers waiting in line for the unreserved tickets.

But just think of the illustrious company you'd be sharing on opening night: Everyone who posts "FIRST!" in the comments for anything. :sneaky:
