I was installing my 6800gt and it was still in that plastic case thing they come in. Anyways, as i was lifting it out of this case, it dropped about 2-3 inches back into the case. After I installed it, all seemed well, but how can i tell if it took any damage?

thanks

Had a GF2 MX sitting in a box that got moved around a bunch. When i pulled it out to put it in my server the thing was under a bunch of stuff and worked just fine. Provided none of the capacitors are knocked off they are pretty durable.

Just taking those things out of the tight fitting plastic case is scary. My eVGA card was in there so tight it was frightening!

Probably no problem. Such electronics parts are usually pretty sturdy. Unless you either break off a transistor or damage the GFX core itself (both would result in the GFX card not working at all) it should be fine.

Goto a UPS or FedEx warehouse to pickup your next Newegg/ZZF/Monarch/Directron/eWiz etc. etc. package and you'll sleep a little better knowing the worst has been done already ;)

no i doubt it, people make up stories alot just to get attention. It happends in psp forums alot i kno for sure because almost everyday something crazy will happen to someones psp that is completely out of the ordinary and will be posted(sad thing is people believe it). But even if it were possible that he were to drop it in a box why would that even matter???? i mean its in the box it was shipped in...meaning it should be perfectly safe.

Its fine unless the ground was filled with static.
These two posts made me rofl.
The first because it's true, the second because it just deserved a rofl.

Anyways, most computer parts these days are solid state (no moving parts), dropping most likely won't destroy them unless you tossed it up in the air as high as you could and let it fall onto concrete (a la iPod Nano).

Hard drives on the other hand...
