Man this card is going up for preorder everywhere for $4-large and there has not been a single legitimate review of a shipping sample. WTH is nVidia up to. Could it suck so bad that they are depending on preorders without allowing the card to be reviewed. And then with the R350 rumors of MArch release, 10% gain over FX and cheaper price.... I think i'm going to have to sit on this one for a few more months. My Ti200 still treads water here.

Seems that ATi timed the R350 quite good; it's sitting there, already waiting to trounce nVidia's latest and greatest.

If ATi were smart, they wouldn't bother with R350 IF NV30 only beats R300 by 10-20% in selected benches. They should instead put their resources into a killer value part in RV350 and be ready to release R400 in late summer 2003.

ATI is (finally) smart. All they have to do is announce A GF-FX "killer" when NV30 is available . . . and then be ready for the NV30 "refresh" with the new part. Only the most diehard of Nvidia fanboys will not be swayed by the news. ;)

:D

Remember that the R350 is already taped out and DDR-II tested and available with the current 9700 . . . looks like the "shoe's on the other foot" now with Nvidia behind the technology curve. Of course this is pure personal speculation - we'll just have to see the reviews when the NV30 makes it to market.

If I were a Nvidia fan, I certainly WOULD pre-order the GF-FX - making sure I paid careful attention to the reviews . . . a pre-order can always be cancelled. ;)

IMO, you'd have to be almost as dumb as those people that preordered a Matrox Parhelia. :D I will wait for the reviews.

The R350 has already taped out and is ramping in production. There is no reason to completely give up on the new core now. Keeping the performance lead is very important for name recognition. ATI needs to keep their name at the top, so they sell their 9000s faster than Nvidia sells their MXs. The development team working on the R400 is seperate from the team that worked on the R350, so there really wont be any shifting of resources or a slowdown as a result of having the R350 come out. Once the R400 tapes out, then they will shift production accordingly.

yes! The GF-FX will drop dramitically in price if R350 is released and beats the NV30. I have always believed Nvidia cards are over inflated price wise.

They do, they'll have drivers that work upon release :)

ATI may have to just release their R350 before nVidia does the FX, if it takes nVidia too long to bring it to market. Then nVidia will have to bring out their latest and greatest GPU only to be slower than than the R350 which will already be available in large quantities and with mature drivers.

Preorders are not planned by nVidia, rather by resellers.

Well, here's how it works, ATi Fanbois keep churning out layers of FUD, building upon it until they believe its based in fact and reality. Their favorite news source is the Inquirer, so that should say it all.

I also find it amusing how the majority of the FUD-spinners don't even own the cards they boast about, and then speak of its compatibility and "mature" drivers. Lmao. :p

I'll assume that's sarcasm since I see a Radeon 9700 Pro in your rigs.

Yep, it'll be in my rig until the GF FX is released, I can't get it to play nice with the rest of my components. Oh well, hopefully R350 is more compatible?

I'm sorry to hear about your compatability problems Chizow. I must be lucky then. I have no issues at all with my Radeon 9700 pro. Then I don't have too much extra hardware to have compatability problems. Or I'm lucky enough to have the right hardware. Anyway no problems here.

Nope, I'm gonna wait to see how much e-tailers have it for and what differences there are between the makes. CompUSA is saying Feb. 5th, but I'm not a huge fan of PNY cards. If it costs too much I'll just go back to a GF4 until it goes down a bit.

You know if ATI really wanted to make a fool of Nvidia, they should release th R350 ASAP and then it can beat the FX which will be coming out in a month or so.

Maybe I have a brain cramp but what does FUD mean?

Unless they were sure of their silicon they could be the foolish ones to release something too early just for marketing (as they are guilty in the rather recent past - Radeon 8500, anyone?).

Nvidia's hurdle and ATI's advantage is this: ATI just needs to announce its next card with PREviews of it beating the GF-FX in selected benchmarks and Nvidia's "thunder" is gone (not to mention - loss of sales) by all but the most diehard Nvidia fan.

I am pretty confident that the GF-FX is not going to be a '9700-killer' - if so, Nvidia would have priced it's NV30 dustbuster well over their current MSRP and pre order price of only $400. ;)
