Key Institutional Facts

? Established in 1766, Rutgers is America?s eighth-oldest institution of higher learning.

? Rutgers is New Jersey?s state university and land-grant institution. It applies the land-grant concept?the integration of teaching, research, and outreach?to its broad range of interdisciplinary programs for the benefit of all New Jersey residents.

? Rutgers is one of only 62 members of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU), an organization of research universities devoted to maintaining a strong system of academic research and education. Rutgers and Princeton are the only AAU institutions in New Jersey.

? Rutgers serves more than 50,000 students on campuses in Camden, Newark, and New Brunswick/Piscataway.

? The demand for a Rutgers education has never been higher. The total number of applications has increased 35 percent over the last ten years.

? Seventy (70) percent of Rutgers students rank in the top 25 percent of their high school graduating classes. Eighty-five (85) percent are from New Jersey.

? Rutgers leads the state in the number of students enrolled through the New Jersey Outstanding Scholars Recruitment Program (OSRP). Since the program?s inception in 1997, roughly 3,600 students have come to Rutgers as a result of this scholarship program for high-achieving students. The mean combined SAT score of Rutgers OSRP students is 1380, with a mean percentile high school class rank of 94.

? Each year, some 10,000 men and women receive a Rutgers degree.

? More than 320,000 Rutgers alumni live and work around the world; more than 184,000 reside in New Jersey.

? Rutgers professors are among the best in the nation. Nearly three dozen Rutgers faculty members hold memberships in the National Academies.

? Nationally ranked academic departments and schools include engineering, pharmacy, history, philosophy, English, anthropology, psychology, and library science.

? Rutgers is home to more than 150 specialized centers and institutes and 29 degree-granting schools and colleges offering more than 100 distinct bachelor?s, 100 master?s, and 80 doctoral and professional degree programs.

? Rutgers is a research powerhouse, with annual sponsored research growing from $92.8 million in 1990 to a record $242.4 million in 2002.

? Rutgers has been involved in 45 start-up companies, including 33 in New Jersey. There are some 400 technologies available for licensing from Rutgers.

? Rutgers channels more than $2 billion annually into the state?s economy through direct and indirect spending, nearly five times the state?s investment in the university.

Another thing, please provide some backing to what you say. Saying stuff like "My school is better" is inconsequential and does not mean anything. Thanks

I could spout random facts too. Drexel has one of the best engineering programs in the country. Refute it if you want, but its true.

Sorry, but I've got more important things to do than sift through TCNJ's marketing drek to settle a pissing contest in which there can be no real winner. There's many reasons to choose one over the other, among them being nicer campus, and not sprawlingly huge. With their "partnership" plans, Rutgers is fast become the PSU of NJ, which is good for some people, and not good for others.

Trenton State (I refuse to call it TCNJ) is not nearlyas good as Rutgers. I never attended Rutgers, but I know enough to know that Rutgers is an excellent school, with statistics that surpass Trenton State.
