How does xbox 360 prem differ from 360 elite?

Is there any significant difference between xbox core/prem/elite with regards to hardware - ability to handle 1080p - speed or similar? Or does the elite cost an extra $200 so that it can be black, and throw in 60gb ?

It used to be that the Elite had a HDMI port, 120GB HDD, and different color along with an improved motherboard.

Now it is just the 120GB HDD and different color since the Premiums are currently using the Elite motherboards.

Wow I didn't even think about how the new 360's are coming with HDMI now, and the elite is still priced $100 higher than the premium.

that's $1/Gb ... that is so 90's.

It doesn't make sense really, they took away one of the Elites bullet points, and then raised it's relative price.

Just to clarify, there are plenty of Premiums out there that do not have HDMI yet. Premium is the way to go if you don't mind the smaller hard drive (honestly it isn't that big a deal for me and I even use the Marketplace a good bit...that being said...I'd probably get the 120GB just for convenience). Regardless, if you decide on the Premium...definitely look for a box that states it has HDMI as this ensures that you have the upgraded motherboard and the option of HDMI).

Totally agree...REALLY doesn't make sense at all. If anything, the price difference should have decreased since there is little difference. It is REALLY hard to justify that price difference when the Premium is really all anyone needs to have a complete 360 experience.

Ok thanks I guess prem is the sweet spot. Seems like (cases) black colouring is expensive :)

Yeah...Premium is definitely the sweet spot. When you get your new system...download the Bioshock demo immediately...it is amazing!

It makes sense because MS wanted to clear out the existing premium inventory, so they want to push people into getting it.

OP, make sure you specifically get a premium that says HDMI on the box. Otherwise it's likely the story will try to hand you one of the older ones.

Early-mid 200s. I paid $150 for a 15 GB hard drive in late 1999. :Q

Yeah, I don't know what the hell Microsoft is thinking with the Elite pricing. They reduced the differences between the systems but increased the price difference? Oh I know what they're thinking - they have us by the balls because of their proprietary hard drives.

Does anyone know if Microsoft is still rumored to be releasing the new motherboard revision later this year? Or is the premium switching to the elite motherboard the switch?

It's still happening. The new motherboard revision you're referring to is the die shrink from the current 90nm down to 65nm. Rumor currently says to look for it starting in the Halo 3-themed 360 consoles coming in late September, but it's possible you won't see them until October.

Most everyone considers the recent price drop of the 360 as a inventory clearance, both with the actual existing SKU's sitting on shelves, as well as them putting the current Elite motherboard in the Premium SKU.

I have heard that theory in conjunction with another round of price drops sometime late this holiday, or early 2008. It wouldn't make sense to make the mid range console the most appealing, when the cost difference to produce has got to be almost negligible, so they're probably profiting almost all the difference in price between the two.

Also OP, if you go to Best Buy to get your Premium, ask if they have SKU #8493838, they have a separate SKU number from the non HDMI Premiums.
