How does X2 split non-HT tasks?

I'm trying to figure out whether a 939 X2 chip is worth the expense when just running older programs.

As an example, say I have a lot of programs running, none of which are using much CPU. Then I start a video encoding (tmpgenc) which uses 99% and then also start a par2 repair of an archive which also want a lot of CPU. Will they each use a different core, or will it be 'luck of the draw' as to which core they were assigned to when loaded?

When I read reviews on newegg about the X2s, there's lots of comments about how much better the computer responds while multitasking.

I believe you will receive better answers in the Operating Systems subforum. AFAIK, it is the OS which relegates tasks.

xp has multiprocessor support, so yes two threads two processors😛 it can't split a single task not programmed for multiprocessing into two processors is all
