How does Verizon handle calls from the US to Canada price wise?

I have a Verizon national plan, and I was wondering how they handle calls to Canada? Canadian phone numbers follow the US format (xxx-xxx-xxxx), and I was wondering if you get charged more for calling Canada?

Canadian calls are considered international unless your calling plan states otherwise. SInce 99.9% of the long distance from my house is my wife calling her mother in Montreal we are on a plan that discounts that. IIRC we pay .05 per minute.
