How does the Utah Jazz exist in the state and there's no hockey team? It doesn't fit the demographics, basketball is a predominately Black American sport, while hockey is predominately a White sport....

We've lost containment! The perimeter has been breached! I need everyone to grab a tranquilizer rifle so we can get this menace back where it belongs.

Hockey is not a popular sport.

End of story.

NBA is a few orders of magnitude more popular.

Hockey is also quite laden with xenophobic Canadians...
In my hockey fandom, I've seen comments about:
Lazy Americans
Lazy Russians
Soft Euros
Frenchies
Good ol' Sasketchwan boys
Ontario makes the best hockey players

Utah and hockey fit together, both white-dominated....basketball is black-dominated.....a place in Alabama or Mississippi should have a NBA team....

Mormon churches have a basketball court in every church. The logistical convenience of turning church in bball court does matter.

Americans don't generally give a care about hockey. It's Canadians and Euros, and some in the former are super sensitive about Canadians keeping it Canadian. Salt Lake City might have saved the Jazz from going under. The NHL, well, they have to target the biggest markets because teams can fold in the wrong places.

This exmoron Reddit thread is quite funny actually.

BBall is serious Mormon business, TLDR.
