How does UBER work with required child (infant) seats?

I have a 10.5 month old. I want to take an UBER with him. I think the law in Texas is that the infant has to be in a child seat. Does that apply in the case of an UBER? Obviously the UBER car will not have the base to attach the child seat to. Am I breaking Texas law by getting in the back seat of an UBER and just holding the child seat?

Thanks!

Of course you'd be breaking the law. There's damned few laws that are "Thou shalt(not) unless it's inconvenient". Take the base with you.

You probably won't be able to hold onto the child/seat in a bad accident.

https://www.quora.com/Can-I-install-a-child’s-car-seat-in-an-Uber-vehicle-for-my-son-Will-the-driver-mind

"Uber has a choice of requesting a vehicle with a car seat. For example, after selecting your pickup location, click on UberX and you should see the option for "car seat" Keep in mind that a $10 surcharge is added to UberX pricing for this type of Uberfamily trip.

uberFAMILY provides one forward-facing car seat for a child who is at least:
(a) 12 months old AND
(b) 22 lbs. AND
(c) 31 inches.
A child is too big at 48 lbs. or 52 inches."

So not for you
BUT

"If you choose not to select this car seat option or if there does not happen to be any drivers with a car seat around you, you might want to request a regular UberX and ask if the driver is ok with you installing a car seat. If it is not ok with that driver, you can cancel the ride within 5 minutes of requesting and you will not be charged any penalty."

If it's easier for you, check to see if your car seat can be installed without the base. There should be instructions in your manual on how to install without the base.

lxskllr, I appreciate it, but that is sure a lot of work. Are you sure what the law is? Perhaps the law says that if you are a driver you have to have kids/infants in your car in a car seat, but that rule does not apply to cars for hire (cabs, UBER, etc.). I can't believe the law would be so damned inconvenient. Thanks!

Yeah, it's only a child, who can be bothered with all that unbuckling and junk.

Do normal cabs (yellow cabs) even have child car seats?

Personally my answer is yes - your kid needs to be in a seat. Anytime I've taken an uber with my daughter it was to go to the airport... and we always bring a car seat with us since it's likely we will get a rental car anyhow.

Also, laws are on a state by state basis: https://saferide4kids.com/car-seat-laws-by-state/

you just cart the tot around with you in their seat, attach seat to Uber car (inside backseat, preferably--try to avoid the roof).

This may surprise you, but I've seen this done several times.
