Basically just like ebay, but it's from actual stores and companies that had overstock, not joe from down the street. The upside is you almost always are getting either factory sealed or factory refurbished parts. The downside is you don't get the super deals as often

Really is getting tough to get a good deal on ubid. Seems so many people get caught up in a bidding frenzy and fail to research prices. And ubid has very high shipping fees that often nigate any bargin you think you're getting. Bidder beware...

UBid will also extend their auctions if the price doesn't reach what they want yet....

I was just checking out the auctions for the laptops and there was one that was supposed to end Friday at 10:30 AM and it's listed as "Final Call".

That's crap! The best way to find deals are on the auctions that end at 3AM and no one is awake to bid. That is... if UBid closes the auction at the right time.

Watch out

If auction is not from UBid directly (Consumer Exchange, I think), proceed with EXTREME caution. There are tons of auctions from people claiming to be in Europe and wanting you to use money wiring. NEVER EVER EVER EVER wire money out of the country. You'll never see it again. Ubid even includes this warning in their winning bid email. They say, "if it's too good to be true, it probably isn't"

The whole final call thing is that no one has to bid for 10 straight minutes after the auction ends, in order to really end. Everytime someone bids, the 10 minutes gets extended.

Also, their shipping fees are pretty high.

Basically, don't get blinded by a seemingly good deal....and use common sense.

ubid sounds like ebay then, everything is usually overpriced.

The only good deals I've seen are on closeout / refurb lots from manufacturers that are like eBay dutch auctions, as the large quantity keeps the price at a decent level. They had serveral large lots of the Shuttle SV24 aluminum mini-PC for under $200 a couple of weeks ago.

as a seller, ubid is a pain in the butt. they want phone bills, bank statments, and all sorts of other junk...

now if ebay bidders were forced to provide the same info, so i dont get 14 year olds with AOL bidding on my stuff with no intention to buy
