How does transfer rate for USB hard drive compare to IDE one?

My hard disk is about 160Mbps, USB is 12(?)Mbps.

usb is made for transfer of 1.25mb/sec (got it out of the january 2000 issue of maximum pc, they have a comparative chart in it)

The ones in my sig. Mbps is mega-BITS per second. ie. 160Mbps = 20MB/s.
