1) find the item you want at staples.com. have a window open with it or with a pen and paper, write down the SKU for the item: just next to the shipping time for the item.
2) have the web page or ad with phone number for the place you want to pricematch ready with THEIR sku (different than the staples sku) and the item mfg number if you can find it. the reason you want both of these numbers is because the staples rep is going to call that store or web site to verify that it is in stock and is the same item as the staples item (by comparing mfg numbers).
*** NOTE: if staples is able to ship the item overnight (says 1 day shipping), staples will send via courier and will include overnight shipping charge with the pricematch. if staples says 1-3 to 3-5 days, it is coming via UPS from warehouse. incidently, the 3-5 day shipping means special order warehouse, which is in SoCal. it is actually overnight for me in LA
3) call staples.com (800-3STAPLE) and press 1 to place an order.
4) give the rep the staples SKU and tell him/her where you want to pricematch, what their sku is, and what the mfg part number is.
5) prepare to wait as staples calls to verify (sometimes they don't if they are lazy).
6) don't forget to give them a staples coupon code. remember, you received the code from either a postcard or a catalog, NOT from a website.
that's it... all it takes is patience and balls. don't let them intimidate you: have everything in front of you and never lose your cool. trust me, you can get a LOT more done in this world with kindness.
