not sure how much better or on what level they are to your maxtor, but seagates and western dig. are on rebates at some sites. (300gb hdd) fyi.

and you probably dont need the fx-53. 3500 or even the 3000 may work as well and save you some $

Used Matrox G450 video card off of Ebay for under $20 - $30 shipped (16Mb really, really cheap, 32 MB low to mid $20s).

Beautiful 2D picture quality.

id upgrade from POS video card and monitor to most any matrox video cards for picture editing and stuff, also, you didnt specify, if youre going (almost) all the way and getting an FX-53, then youll probly want faster ram too, PC4000+

to be honest i'd go w/ the 3200+ processor since you wont be gaming or any intense applications- put the money towards a real nice monitor and a vid card that can run. my philosophy is that the monitor should be good since thats what you'll be lookin at 24/7 since your not gaming why not go w/ a nice 19" LCD or if you have the room a 21" flat screen crt

ok - so you guys think the fx-53 would be overkill. well this app is very CPU intensive. and why exactly is the price difference (or what excatly is the difference) so huge between the fx and 3500 etc.

Why don't you contact the company that designed the software ask them what they consider the optimum platform for their software?

The other thing to think about is that if that software takes a while to run, stability and reliability may be more important than ultimate speed.

After all, if the system keeps crashing and you have to redo your work, it can become frustrating and non-productive very quickly.

Also, you may want to ask them how much faster the program runs with more and more cpu horsepower. Then you can decide exactly how much you need to speed on your pc.

What exactly do you mean by imaging? The rest, a high-powered PC isn't needed.

is this for a business? is this computer mission critical?

lawtsi doesn't take a whole lot of CPU power.

If your employer has the money for 2GB sticks and a 4000+ or FX you may be much better off looking at a Dual Opteron in the long run, as its a much more stable platform. If your job relies on thiss PC working, I wouldn't dare not getting a workstation class machine.
