How does this make ANY sense? (GPU prices, even lower-end)

So eBay now has used RX 580s starting at ~$240, but from mining, and Newegg eBay is selling MSI Air Boost Vega 56 for ~$460. Seems like things are a lot better now. But I am very wary of a used mining GPU... :confused2:
The RX 580 was around $230 and $200 (8GB/4GB) at launch. Used, I'd pay $150-$180 maybe. Vega 56 I'd pay $325-$350 tops.

I wouldn't touch a mining gpu with a telephone pole. Let all these suckers that caused this situation, shove them up their shelves.

Selling used cards is one thing, but used cards above msrp is the infuriating part. They want to have their cake and eat it too.

You can't really fault sellers for trying to get the largest return on their investment, the infuriating part is that some people seem to be buying used mining cards for above MSRP.

I thought video card prices were supposed to decrease, but I checked Newegg tonight and GTX 1050s are going for $120 (after rebate) with the lowest price for a 1050 TI being $170. The GTX 1050 I bought last summer for $93 shipped with free Rocket League was a great price, I guess. The lowest 1060 3GB is $230 and the lowest 1060 6GB is $270 (after coupon code).

Will the mining madness ever end?

https://seekingalpha.com/article/41...e-data-offers-first-clear-read-amd-q2-gpu-biz

TUL Revenue (PowerColor's Parent) compared to 2017:

Jan - +885%
Feb - +280%
Mar - +503%
April - +7.54%
May - +107%
June - (-6.7%)

Guy claims TUL is pretty much entirely the PowerColor brand, so basically AMD GPUs. And given that miners would likely prefer AMD GPUs if available, you can kind of assume that nVidia is not getting much out of mining right now.

Given that a FE 1080ti is $700, that is still more expensive than it should be.

Can someone explain how are these kind of prices viable for the retailers in the current climate:

https://geizhals.at/?fs=rx 580&cat=gra16_512

The RX 580 models have now stabilized at around 300~ plus euro range in many parts of Europe, and not even a hint of them coming down to the previous price ranges (240 euros more than a year ago). I wonder if they adjust their prices purely on the basis of an algorithm that counts average sales at that price range, or are they just hoping to clear the old stock at robbery level prices based on the dream of mining making some kind of a recovery?

They probably don't have the same overstock problem of those cards as they do NVidia cards. I imagine they would drop the price if they had too much inventory.

Used prices....
Gtx1060 6gb $190
So far I've seen a gtx1070 for $250.
A gtx1070ti for 320$.
A gtx1080 for $370.
Gtx1080ti for 550$.

I think prices are now better than ever, even if new cards are coming.

I know it's mean-spirited, but man if I'm not enjoying the current drop in altcoin prices. Ethereum is $171 and still dropping. You'll make a whole $5/month in profit using an RX 580 to mine it.:D

Our long, nerdy nightmare has finally come to an end.

For those of us that became dependent on the revenue from mining, to supplant our incomes, the decline in earnings is not welcome.

Find something else to supplement your effing income, than to destroy million of people's enjoyment. You stinking money grabbing easy profit juknies.

0/10 - Not enough Venom in that post. Try again?

Seriously though, I've managed to somehow destroy millions of people's enjoyment, what, with my army of five RX cards? :(

Well to be fair, no, not you individually. Its also true that pouring your used motor oil down the sink is not going to ruin anything for anyone. That said, if enough did it...

That is the issue, there are enough people even companies that are doing this to the point of raising cost for both dGPUs and power for everyone else.

Just makes me wonder if prices on the new RTX cards are going to fall from their silly targets without Mining to support it.

So what about those of us who only mined with used Hawaii cards? Good grief.
