How does this happen to my car without me knowing?

I am the only one that drives my car.
It doesn't look like your typical parking lot scrapes.
I never hit or scraped anything that I can remember.
I don't know how long this was here, I just noticed it.
I'm at a loss.

Shopping cart, someone walking by with a briefcase and running into your car, probably something like that.

Could be a truck (garbage or something big like that) scrapped the side.
Really sucks!

Someone scrapped off all the clear coat on the spoiler of my old car. I didn't drive it very often and didn't notice it right away. That pissed me off like you wouldn't believe. Must have taken the idiot a good hour with a key to get as much damage done as (s)he did.

This doesn't look like intentional damage. It looks like I scraped against something. I just can't think of when that might have happened.

sucks that other people have no regard for your property, either that or they don't know how to drive.

My secret belief is that it's built into the design of the car, every so often these things magically appear. I have no proof of that, of course.

I have no idea. I'm just saying it LOOKS like that from the damage. I don't think that's what happened.

It's odd cos you have the straight-ish line, then the spotty bit on the wheel arch. Maybe you clipped a bush reversing out and got scraped by a branch? You wouldn't feel it and if your music was loud enough, you wouldn't hear it.

I've got a mark similar to that on my bumper. I got it when I was parking my car in a spot that was next to a wall. The left front bumper slightly rubbed against the wall. I had no idea it happened until I got home (didn't feel anything in the car since I barely touched the wall).

The length of the scratch is long and straight which suggests that something like a shopping cart is the not culprit since they usually bounce off leaving behind small scrapes and dents although I wouldn't rule it out completely. What could have also happened is someone walked by the car holding a reasonably heavy object that quickly bounced once (creating that chip directly under the center of your light) and then hitting the car again with a smaller impact allowing it to be dragged along the car until they pulled the object away.

Probably got scraped by another car while it was parked. That has happened to me before as well, one time I even saw it happen and the dude just drove off like nothing happened. Someone has even busted off my car mirror while parked on the street.

I guess it's possible.
