How does this burner stack up?

I noticed what seems to be a great deal at best buy. It is a Samsung 24x10x40 Internal CD-RW Drive ? SW-224BRAF for $99. Can you guys let me know what you think of it, is it reliable, can I burn safedisc 2 backups without any problems? Thanks so much

Don't get it. It doesn't have BURN-Proof. Grab a 24x Lite-On from NewEgg or mwave for less than that (shipped) - I've delt with two of them and they are great.

I'll ditto that. I loved my 16x and am using a Lite-on 24x. Great Burner!

ok, i've decided that the lite-on is the best cd burner, especially for its price, but what about the dvd burners? Are the companies gonna decide on a format anytime soon so the prices can come down? I just dont want to spend $ on a cd burner and soon after a dvd burner that can do the same thing and more.

You don't have to consider getting one of those for a while. Reason being that the prices are still so high. Most of them range from $400 and up. Why get one of those when you can have a CD-RW for one of them. IMO, I think Pioneer makes the best DVD-RAM and DVD-RW drives, but HP also makes them, and there are a couple of other companies. Stick with the CD-RW for now, unless you have some major archiving to do. Hope this helps.
