How does the X800SE 128 pci-e from dell stack up --3.0 1gig 7800 3dmark03

Hey,

I just got my new 8400 from dell (from outlet but the machine came brand spanking new, not a blemish or sign of use so i got a great price)

It's a p4 3.0 with a gig of 400mhz ddr2 and an X800SE 128mb pci-e express card.

The first thing i did was run 3dmark03 on it.

I got 6800 with the pre-loaded drivers and 7800 with the newer ATI catalyst drivers off ati's site.

Just wondering how this card ranks to retail cards, the 256mb x800se, the 6600gt etc.

I havent really been able to do any other testing on the system since it's currently downloading the wow client while i slept, and i had to work today as well (itching to get home!!).

The only other game i play besides wow beta currently is a couple bf1942 mods (dc-final mostly).

probably comparable to the 6600gt and the x700xt

x800pro manages 9-10k and the xt 11-12k

but seems a nice enough card to come with a dell machine

You may want to post on Dell's forums and see what they all say. I post there as well and I'm sure since that the x800 SE is a lower end x800-series card, those are about the scores you can expect.

Dell Forum

The X800SE is an 8pipeline version of the X800 series and it's pretty much in the thick of it with the other 8-pipe cards of this generation: the X700XT and GeForce 6600GT .

I'm getting an X800SE 128 mb with my Dell 8400. I do wish it had the 256 mb of memory for the future, but 128 should get me by for another year or so, then I can see what PCIexpress cards are on the market for an upgrade at a modest price.

I am curious to how this card stacks up. Some have said it is faster than the Radeon 9800XT - if so, I'll be plenty happy with that since I'm not a hard core 3D FPS gamer. More casual and only occasional 3D games - but I do like all the eye candy and good performance naturally.

Hopefully with 3.2 Ghz CPU, 1 Gb or DDR RAM, and a decent card like the X800SE, I'll be in pretty good shape?

Yeah, I'm guessing it will do fine in games. Any new card will be able to play them at or near very high settings.

It is better. Not by a whole lot, but it is still noticably better then a 9800xt.

That will be good enough for me!

It will be interesting to see some benchmarks come out including the X800SE, but for now I can look at 9800XT benchmarks as a reference to get an idea how performance is.

Thanks

I have the same system same card with a gig of ram at 533 and played Metal of Honor last night for the first time and it played great. My last card was a TNT64 32mb card form my old Sony so at this point anything would have been great.

Do a format and a clean install of windows and I bet you'll get over 8K.

how so? if dells come preloaded with all kinds of crap they could be sucking up valuable system resources. that's the only way that i could see it benefit gaming and benchmark results overall...

200 Points? right... just because something is on your hard drive doesn't affect performance. This crap you speak of would have to be using a lot of cpu time and frankly I've never seen anything that comes with a system that does. Even NAV doesn't use that much when you aren't using it.
