how does the world currently view the US?

Does anyone know of any polls taken abroad of current views on the US? I suppose you could break that down into views about US foreign policy and views about US culture.

They despise US foreign policy and only hate our culture.

That's cool though, luckily for them they can hate us and rely on us at the same time 😉

Sorry to say, we just might find out the hard way how N Korea views us. If they have a nuke able to hit the US, who would they attack first? US or S. Korea. Going by the way N. Korea thinks, probably US. (then South K)

Exceptionally Arrogant and foolish, and 51% of the population are completly f*cked in the head for putting a retard in charge of the most powerful military in the world, Pity the Australian government has its head so far up the US's ass, you can't tell where Bush ends and Howard starts😀

I second that.

The foreign policy in your country is basically non existant. It can be summed up in the "Get oil" and "If you seem like a threat to us we will nuke you" sentences.
Americans are viewed as paranoid en masse, come on, you are hella paranoid. There's no argument against that. Paranoia coupled with the biggest military power in the world (because of the paranoia naturally) is not a thing i like. Add some stupidity to that and you've got a world that dislikes you.

Your culture? Well if you're one of them "Reba is the funniest thing on tv" "CSI rules" kinda people. I personally would dislike you. The shows you produce many times are more than pathetic. The way everything is arranged when Bush speaks is pathetic and disgusting. The fear of being politically correct is vile, it literally makse me sick.
The weirdest thing is your laws like the one who was just passed in florida regarding guns.

The reason it's expressed so greatly is because people outside the US once had a vision of a great country, some even still do (me), it's a psychological term. If you expect something and you find the opposite, it's worse.

In denmark generally we have a thing called "Jante-Loven". Which is the Jante-Law (jante is a name). It has a few points.

1. Du skal ikke tro, du er noget.
Do not think you are anything

2. Du skal ikke tro, at du er lige så meget som os.
Do not think you're worth just as much as us.

3. Du skal ikke tro, at du er klogere end os.
Do not think you're smarter than us.

4. Du skal ikke bilde dig ind, at du er bedre end os.
Don't fool yourself thinking you're smarter than us.

5. Du skal ikke tro, at du ved mere end os.
Don't think you know more than us.

6. Du skal ikke tro, at du er mere end os.
Don't think you're worth more than us.

7. Du skal ikke tro, at du duer til noget.
Don't think you're good at anything.

8. Du skal ikke le ad os.
Don't laugh at us.

9. Du skal ikke tro, at nogen bryder sig om dig.
Don't think anyone cares about you.

10. Du skal ikke tro, at du kan lære os noget.
Don't think you can teach us anything.

All in all this is just a joke. But i personally still love it. Because it has a point about being humble. Generally the US has a more competion oriented everyday. Which we do not. Everyone is worth just as much as everyone else. Or rather, everyone, is worth less than anyone else. That's how i live my life.

depends where ? a good number of these loud yokels have contempt for what they misunderstand or just don't care to try to understand. much easier to be a slave to your ingrained biases than to face them. besides, being an unctuous bobble-headed yes-man is a role reserved for liberal internationalists, not leaders.

well, some nations dig us from work we have done for them, some nations are nervous that They May Be Next, some nations hate us in general and some nations hate us because of recent actions.
too bad i dont have any names attached.
to answer your question: no, i dont.

Let me try to give an answer to the question at hand.

I do not know how the world views us, but I can tell you how Europe views us.

Europe thinks we are a bunch of arrogant SOBs without any manners. The primary reason for this is that we like to go to other countries and tell people there how to run their own country! An example of this would be going to Spain and yelling at the restaurant owner for not opening the restaurant before 7 or 8 (since the Spanish eat dinner late) and proceeding to tell them how in America things are done this way/that way. This was a real example witnessed by one of my friends.

We are loud and abnoxious. You can tell who is American in any public transportaion vehicle in Europe. Just look around and find the big loud group talking.

That's just a cultural view.

This is the equivalent of having the French come here to the U.S and telling us how to run our country. It would probably not go over very well. Sadly though we are similar to French in the sense that we both believe that there is only one way: The U.S/French way and everyone else can go screw themselves.

This is why the French are hated in Europe too. 🙂

The best answer: WHO F*CKING CARES...

Do you always live your life asking others for their opinions, or really caring what they may think of you? I sure hope not, that is a life of slavery to the opinions of others.

I try not to piss someone off when I don't have to. I don't care what others think of me, but if their opinion of me causes them to dictate policy that affects me, then I care.

Yeah. The U.S. is completely isolated from the rest of the world. Our domestic and foreign policies don't have ANY effect on anyone else in the world.

As to the OP:

How can 59,054,087 people be so DUMB?

not always, but sometimes it might be a good idea to question yourself.

Many countries are so left wing that they are deluded about the real world. The USA has helped to create an atmosphere in Europe where peace could flourish since the WWII. So Europe does not really know what it means to have to fight a war. The present generation has had it good for so long that they probably have no concept of what it means to have to fight a war. Without the US and Great Britian and France to some extent, most of Europe is not even protected. If Europe had to fight a war right now they could not do it without the Help of the US. As much as some people hate us, they need us very bad even if they dont realize it.

The UN keeps appointing the people with the worst records to sit on boards like human right abuses and the security council. They can lull themselves into a sense of security but they are quite deluded if they think they could defend Europe in any meaningfull way without our help. The UN depends on the support of the US. They just dont get it.

There are probably many people in Europe that do like the US. I dont hate Europe, and I have lived in Italy for 3 years before. However there does seem to be a US-Them mentality in certain circles. Some of the problem is a Liberal Left wing press that influences many countries. If no conservative voices ever see the light of day then they dont ever hear a conservative message. I think the best thing would be for the US to just pull out all our troops from Europe and just keep a few airstrips and bases maintiained for emergency use. Only then would Europe understand their own situation.

The Europeans I have met seem to be able to distinguish between Americans and official American foreign policy.

Most like Americans but dislike our current foreign policies.

I would venture a guess you don't have any friends? Someone once told me that you have to give a little to get a little. The same is true in international relations. Who even tries to get a long with someone who has to have it thier way, or no way?

I suppose different countries would view US foreign policy differently, but when it comes to US culture, it is spreading like wildfire across the globe, except perhaps some very poor countries, like those in africa.

The US culture spread via its entertainment industry, then the fast food franchise, and now the internet, etc, etc.

Yeah. The U.S. is completely isolated from the rest of the world. Our domestic and foreign policies don't have ANY effect on anyone else in the world.

Above is a quote!

This is an absurd statement. Our people in the USA consume products from all over the world. They do care about our markets and what we do has effects worldwide. Just ask China if they want us to buy their products. We buy lots of cars from Japan, and Germany. We buy tons of raw materials from different countries in Europe, Asia, and South America.

We even like to buy french wine, cheese and other products that are traditional products of many countries people have immigrated from to live in the USA.

I think your sarcasm meter is broken. 😉

Awwwww look, Southerners don't like having the truth about them shown in a documentary:

5-2-2005 Kentucky Town Demands Apology From A&E

"Obviously, being labeled the town from hell can not be interpreted in any way as positive," City Manager Donovan Blackburn wrote in a letter to the network.

Blackburn said he watched the show when it aired on March 26 and was shocked that Pikeville was portrayed as a hillbilly haven, a stereotype people throughout the region have fought vigorously to overcome.

"You start the piece by showing a rebel flag on Julius Avenue, an overweight man without a shirt smoking a cigarette and an old pickup with a few women in the back," Blackburn said.

"As I am sure you would agree, you can go to almost any city in America and find the same."

Mayor Frank Justice II and city commissioners have passed a resolution demanding a public apology.

Justice said he fears the show has put Pikeville in such an unfavorable light that industrial recruiters will find it more difficult to convince companies to move into the town.

"We're a progressive town," he said.
=================================================

"We're a progressive town"

Bahahahaha , this guy thinks he's W.

I bet because they all voted Republican that they think they are "progressive".

What a Tool, you're not going to find Rebel Flags flying in Northern States.

Not likely to see shirtless smoking fat men driving a old pick-up with women in the back either.

Don't forget that the pick-up most likely has Jesus stickers and Bush 04 stickers on the bumper too.
