I am tempted to install my Sound Blaster Live on my WIN XP machine.....ECS K7S5a Athlon 1.4mhz system......Has anyone had problems with the sound card with XP?....Is it a performance hog??

I noticed they havent had any new drivers since last year

I Have a SB Live 5.1 Platinum

just works (and sounds) great

but make sure NOT to install the drivers that come with the CD, download the latest ones before you install it

I'm happy with the sound quality and performance of my Sound Blaster Live! Value under Windows XP Pro, Windows 2000, and Linux. 🙂

guys could anyone direct me to an exact link of the latest SB Live! drivers for WIN XP???

Im in the US and I am using the SBLive! value edition

thanks!

You can get the newest WHQL drivers from Compaq as detailed here.

It's a hefty 377 MB download so it's not for everyone but it's equivalent to a brand new drivers CD. This should be most helpful for Audigy owners who've lost their CD (which is required for drivers installation/update!). You'll need to delete/rename the CToem.cfg file for installation to work.

I found that although the built-in WXP drivers work okay, the default volume was excruciatingly high; you had to set both your master & PCM volume levels around 10% to get normal volume output. With the official drivers (from Compaq), my volume sliders are at 50% where they should be.

Man...I d/l'd and installed those drivers on a brand new fresh install of XP Pro and it sounded great while being a little on the loud side. Sound clarity was much better and that annoying hiss was gone.

Woke up this morning, turned my system on (1.4 Tbird/Epox8KHA+/512mgs Crucial pc2100 ddr ram) and the thing was slow as a slug. WTF? Took for ever to boot and just plain slow to do anything. This was on a FRESH INSTALL....nothing else other than the critical updates.

Reformatted again using the driver update from MS and systems back up to speed although it sounds like s***.

I'm glad I have a Hercules GTXP on my primary XP Home system. To problems M8! 🙂

Btw, that's on an SB Live 5.1
