I've done some research on this as I am in the same boat myself. The 9000 is a bit slower than the 8500 and a lot slower than the 4200. I've been going back and forth but I think I'm going to get the 4200 over the 8500. The 9000 pro is not even made to compete with those two cards, it's against the GF 4 MX series and it beats them quite easily.

I'm holding out for the Radeon 9500, a scaled-back version of the 9700 that should be built at .13mu. I've heard it will be available by Xmas and will cost around $200.

While I can't argue with you for waiting for the 9500, you could play that game for a long time. At least I have been :) Always something better on the horizon and price cuts for the older stuff... I just can't wait any longer as my GF 2 MX is really showing its age.

It's a little slower than a 8500 and quite a bit slower than a Ti4200. The choice here really is only between the 8500 and the Ti4200.

Depends on where you are, too. Prices can really vary. I can get a Radeon 9000 as low as $109 Canadian. The cheapest Ti4200 is $225C. More than double the price. Yes it's a lot faster, but I have to ask the question: Do I need that much speed?
The 9000 is faster than a 7500 in every circumstance, almost as fast as the 8500 in many cases, and enhances web video which I would view more often if it looked better (I can only get 3ABN via RealVideo... no satellite or TV for me.)

The 9000 does fit the bill very nicely, and can be had VERY cheap!
OTOH, if I were to consider the price of the RETAIL BOX 9000Pro, you can get a Ti4200 for only $20C more. Obviously I'd get the Ti4200. I'm no dummy. :)
