I wonder how many people each week buy tickets to go watch the PGA tournaments? Or do they mainly make their money from sponsors?

I mean they are giving out tons of prize money each week

Tickets to the PGA Championship were 100 bucks per adult, 20 per child. The day we went there were 22,000 people. And that's ticket sales alone.

They make money a ton of different ways:

1) Last TV contract for 2003-2006 was worth around 900 million.
2) Title sponsors pay around 6 million dollars to get their name on a tournament. Most of that money goes into the purse and to the networks for the commercials.
3) Ticket sales. It's not unusual for an event to draw a quarter million or more for the week at $50+ per head
4) Concessions. They're not selling hot dogs and beer at cost, that's for damn sure.
5) PGA Tour logo gear.
