How does the original Test Drive Unlimited hold up today on PC?

Since my Xbox now sleeps with the fishes I'm actually thinking I might not replace it at all.

I enjoyed a lot of games but the two games I really got into were Mass Effect and TDU. Mass Effect I picked up during the EA sale (despite some wonkiness I'm glad I did; the basic gameplay is much more enjoyable for me on PC), and now D2D has TDU as an offering.

How was/is it on PC? I'm assuming no one plays online anymore, but I'm more interested in the casual single player challenges/collecting stuff/roaming. I'm sure my console TDU game left a lot unfinshed. Any annoying glitches, bugs, or control issues on the PC version that were never ironed out?

I bought TDU 2, but I don't like it. Interestingly, they're the same price on the sale. I'm wondering if the publisher is trying to garner some extra TDU sales from people who couldn't get into TDU 2.

I seem to remember it had some control issues. It worked ok with my Fanatec wheel and pedals but I couldn't get it working with a standard Xbox 360 USB controller.

I still play from time to time. I still find it really fun to just roam around the island in different cars, especially because I got the extra cars pack. As for performance, it runs great and looks pretty good with lots of AA.

I play with my Xbox 360 controller and have no problems at all. You just have to map the buttons, as it's not supported by default like in other games.

ya runs great with xbox 360 controller for me. IIRC I had to fine tune dead center a bit for a hair more play but that was at launch so I have lost many a brain cell since then.

I think I'm going to get it.

I really miss the "throw the cd in the drive, complete a mission, ferry a hooker... I mean, model or drug dealer around" relaxed gameplay of TDU.

And I'm assuming the graphics will be sharper on PC.

yes the graphics are great on a nice machine.

and the 360 controller worked like a champ here and no I didn't have to map anything was mapped like the 360 version by default.
